What is plastic surgery?

Plastic surgery means the moulding of the surface and sometimes deep structures of the human body. In time, techniques developed in plastic reconstructive surgery have been adapted for the purpose of rejuvenation and aesthetic enhancement of the patients.

The cosmetic surgery dimension of plastic surgery has also been assisted by developments in the technology. Lasers have gradually expanded from the field of tumour destruction to the delicate process of skin rejuvenation and correction of some skin blemishes with minimal and sometimes no visible scarring. The techniques of implant reconstruction have developed into the ability to also enhance the facial and bodily appearance.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, in collaboration with other plastic and cosmetic surgery associations has been at the forefront of development of the new and exciting techniques that are now in the armamentarium of plastic surgeons in Britain and around the world. It has always been the main goal of the association to support its members in the pursuit of excellence in their practice, raising the standards of aesthetic surgery and giving the patient a safe, personalised and enjoyable cosmetic surgery experience.
